Food Gathering
Most crops are vine-like
The seeds hide inside the vine till the weather eases at between-time.
The vine roots are deep to keep away from too hot or too cold. They produce exotic fruits and berries of many flavors.
There is a lot of fruit so alcoholic beverages are quite exotic. Usually spiced/mulled
Some seeds will only open from extreme heat or fire.
Underground vegetables like potatoes, Kumera, turnip, parsnip, beetroot etc survive the burn-time with deep roots.
More delicate crops are tended to in homes like lettuce, silver-beet, tomatoes in planting walls.
Animals who have died exposed to the burn-time, their bodies have been naturally cooked and dried; This is gathered by Scavenger traders.
Spices and herbs are gathered and dried and highly traded
Fish are acquired that have already died frozen in Ice that weren't fast enough to migrate away to warmer waters. They are cut out in little ice blocks, and carved out/thawed when desired for eating. Collecting these is very dangerous.
Eggs are rare, only discarded unfertilized eggs are used. The nest is usually very cold/open to the elements, and only 1-2 there. To be sure, an Egg can be candled to make sure it is without young. (Holding a lit candle behind the egg to see shadow inside)
Food preparation is learnt at a young age and all Rahs know how to cook and feed others, as well as gathering.
Scavengers or ice fishers are specialized roles one learns or apprenticeships.
One Queendom cultivates honey-bees and is the only known Rah to do so, these bees are multicoloured semi metallic markings.
Her honey is known far and wide, and the Kingdoms look forward to the Annual peace treaty trade to get a taste of it.
Other Rah cultivate edible fungi, and help also grow medicinal ones for the apothecary for ailments.
There are hardy trees that sprout berries along thier trunks, and varieties of fruit that ripen at different parts of the season, some of which are kept in the underground food garden and forest.
Supplies are gathered at each between-time, a quarter is eaten in celebration or feast that can also be described as Fertility season as the Does are heavy in heat and others in rut then.
Society in the extreme seasons are a bit, well, intense, everyone is at close quarters in markets and public eating areas.
