Seih'Rah living
Where they live is called 'The mound'. Like a village inside a city of mud, earth, clay, grasses. Often called a Cob-house type build, but also carved limestone/rock when getting underground. A mud-brick 'termite-hill-like' mound, also called a 'castle' These 'mounds' can be anywhere from rock bases to on the edge of a forest. It is hollowed out with rooms and corridors, flat bits with raised fences that are open like 'courtyards'. Sleeping quarters are just below surface in cozy holes. Dungeons or jails are well below ground. Main kingdoms are: North, East, South and West. However castles are dotted everywhere in sub-kingdoms and villages. They have either a king or a queen, never both! Each King or Queen has their own 'Harem'. More info on the 'mounds' Gathering rooms are huge enough for a family to comfortably lounge about...families consist of perhaps 6-10 individuals. A 'family unit' doesn't always have blood relatives. They can all be lovers for instance. Halls are bigger still, and grand halls are for royalty to hold banquets, balls, entertainment etc. These have beautiful rugs and such. Floors can be either Marble or alabaster stone...some kings and queens prefer checkered to plain colour. Bedrooms are big enough for 2 Shi'Rah to sleep and maneuver comfortably, unless like before mentioned there is a 'lovers' 'family unit' in which case the bedroom is way larger. Rugs over hard packed earth. Silks and sheets on ceiling with again ventilation holes. The 'bedrooms' tend to be quite oval or circular with no corners only the floor is straight. Shi'Rah love huge lavishly decorated soft beds with loads of cushions and decorated with tassels. The beds tend to be round and set in the middle of the room with draping curtains to frame them. Kings and Queens have a much bigger bed still, with smaller beds littered around the edges of the room. The 'main' bed is a 3 poster which has a canopy/curtains of either light muslin or heavy velvet. The curtains are attached with circular wood over a pole for easy sliding. The posts are set into the ground a meter or so away from the bed (so no one trips over) like a kinda tent in the middle of the room. Internal decoration/furniture etc
Example furniture/interior pintarest board Wood workers/Carpenters use felled trees from natural disaster, but if need to make a boat/ship or large furniture, they always plant trees to replace those used. Known wood-working peoples are the Quinu'Rah and the Binu'Rah, whom create magnificent sailing ships. Chairs are like chaise-long or long backed (portrait or landscape) to accommodate their bodies. Beds are always round, some big some small, some with a lip and some without, Rah love to curl up or splay everywhere, either alone or in a cuddle pile. Some beds are very ornate with lots of pillows and Canopy drapery around it. Others are hung like a giant circular swing, much more plain and basic but again with lots of pillows. They enjoy napping/reading nooks by windows up in the above-ground areas during in-between seasons. Bathing areas are usually set into the ground/floor and can either be private or communal. Depending on size of Harem they can be quite elaborate. There are public bathing areas in cave inlets with directional water flow, some can be lit quite impressively by glowing crystals. Kitchens are also very medieval, with hot stone and potbelly stoves, loaf ovens and varying sizes of cooking cauldrons. Fire pits are common up in the courtyards, fireplaces in homes are protected by Saltstone. |

They live in a Monarchy with kings and queens for each main mound. They live in 'mounds' which look like giant termite-hills. Courtyards and marketplaces are inside above ground, homes are below ground in a network sort of like a rabbit warren. Markets and trading are their main focus. Extremely social with a deep community connection to help the mound function, from sharing duties of food growing/preparation, food storage, to communal bathing areas, Markets, and expanding living quarters. Love elaborate silks, finaries, jewellery, food, curtains and rugs. Specialties is architecture, hairdressing, scribing/writing. Example architecture pintarest board
Cities/villages look like termite mounds at the top (or Structures of limestone and rock, very natural with little windows in it.) Underground is like a series of rabbit warrens with interconnecting tunnels/hallways. Mud-brick is commonly used, as well as carving stone mostly limestone, and saltstone, and clay. Most structures are organic and curved on the outside as well as internally. The many winding 'corridors' have private 'homes' branching off with bedrooms and such. These Hallways are big enough to walk upright with room to spare above for wings..floors are usually like polished marble. Hallways and internal homes are lit by a network of glowing crystals Air ventilation is maintained by a system of tiny tunnels leading up to the surface, maintained by tiny Wyvern-like Rah. Even below-ground they need to wear a little layering, so they make themselves what look like stylized-covers(like a horse's). Combining the Mound's people all below ground, it creates a nice comfortable heat, and their air-vents are kept free of ice and snow so that cool and fresh air circulates. Bedrooms are smaller more cozy. Outdoor areas, are called courtyards, so this is like the city mall. These outdoor areas are where most Marketplace bustle happens, some have established shops above ground they open in between time. Travelers usually have tents and stands for easy setup/dismantle for their journey. Nothing is there during burn-time or cold-time, but is hubub in the between-time with the excitement of the marketplace. There are high arches and bridges, and a giant wall around the entire mound's courtyards AND outer walls. There is a Drawbridge entrance at the front gateway. Everything is natural-looking (with exception to the drawbridge)and looks carved from limestone/rock or made of mudbrick. Some are very rough dirt, others are hardpacked like clay once it is set, and like in case of royals, marble is used in extensive ways. Architecture is organic with lots of curves, sharp angles are rare but do occur but mostly with bridges or fences. Nearby is a river (think Egyptian Nile) that some boats travel up from abroad, which connects out to sea. Some cities/villages are within forest areas so have more external vegetation and less extreme shaping, with homes in bubbles above ground instead of below. |
