Oryn'Rah (Oh-rin-Rah)
Height: 12-14hh Sub-specie: Wingless Rah (type of Daid) Colours: Any that fit a desert environment Feet: Back hooves like Oryx Images: https://www.deviantart.com/fourkingdoms/gallery/68222507/oryn-rah Friendly with: Daid, Quinu, Binu Trades with Chae Cautious of: Seih Stays well away from: Dhu Location: The desert Shuas Distant relation: Quinu, Bunu: Close relative: Daid Nomadic peoples the Oryn-Rah have a large underground network of tunnels and byways for traveling during extreme weather. When the milder in-between seasons, they travel above-ground in caravans across the desert, often encountering the land-ships of the Binu-Rah along the sand-river lines at the edge of their territory. Often dark leathery skin, fur short with a satin-like shine. The large skunk-like tail is used as a fan and held above the body to shield from the sun when traveling above ground through the desert sands. Sometimes various persons will bear a single slender horn or small nubs on the head, we think they are distant relative in specie to the Quinu'Rah. Due to the unique large tail they are considered very beautiful, and are rare to be seen in any royal's harem. Occasionally snow will fall on the desert area of Shuas on frigid cold nights. Which when melted, helps replenish the oasis areas scattered within. As Seih'Rah and most other winged peoples usually travel by skies, they do not bump into the Oryn or the ice-faring Alac half as much, due to their elusive nature. They usually only pass ways at Marketplaces and other communal gatherings where they go for trade. They live with and tend to a herd of Lumbarbeast per family unit, depending on their trade. Shepherds travel their herds above-ground to lush oases to graze and hydrate during the in-between seasons. During Burn-time they relocate to the underground networks and shift them to each ecosystem pocket. This is how they came into contact with the Bat-winged Chae'Rah, and Elusive Alac'Rah gatherers. Cold-time they also remain underground, and are known to share meals with the much more cold-acclimatized Alac'Rah who shelter in deep ice caverns underground. Excellent source of food trading during these times. Marketplace and trade: They are traders and very prized at marketplaces for their weaving, which they use the hair of the herdbeasts, and lumbarbeasts mixed with plant fibers to create. They are also very much like their direct relatives the Daid'Rah, being stunning dancers, hairdressers, Healers/Alchemist. Chae'Rah regularly trade with them, supplying them with the precious stones and gems used in elaborately made items of clothing. They also trade with the Daid'Rah for their metallurgy knowledge, in making fine chains and clasps for clothing items as well. Binu'Rah have been known to give the Oryn assistance in passage through the lands when needing to travel a greater distance then just the desert areas. Food: Gathered natural-dried/cooked animals and insects that died during burn-time. Gathered fruits which are then dried and added to foods. Various vegetables and tubers found in the oases in their travels or at marketplaces. Seeds and nuts, which are excellent travel snacks on their own, but also added to breads and dishes. Milks from their herdbeasts (They can come into 'maiden milk' much like goats, so are not always needed to bare young for milk supply), Grains are used for flat-Breads, which they sweeten with dates and dried fruits gathered in the milder seasons. Pastries are made with various fillings from savory to sweet. Underground grain mills are made with hydro power, harnessing the heavy flowing underground rivers, with a series of interconnecting cogs. These are strategically placed in various points along their underground trails, un-manned and can be used by travelers to grind their collected grains into flour for breads. They enjoy teas, hot waters infused with dried leaves of vegetation and herbs, ranging from Mint, to Rose-hip, some flora produce different tastes and aromatics that are deeply enjoyable. Another drink is wine, pressed in specially carved out basins in the rock. Cactus fruits are highly prized for their delicacy, and hard to come by above ground. If harvested, some are left still on the plant, so as not to damage the plants propagation. |
